2024 Sleepers

These prospects will look to make a big impact on the court this high school season as featured players on their squads. They all had really good Grassroots seasons and look to take that next step in their senior campaign. Here are 10 players that will be very impactful in the class of 2024.

Jerrell Barron Jr. 6’4” SG | Atascocita BSH80

A player to watch this season will be Jerrell. He is a big time shot maker. His biggest attribute is his perimeter play. He buys in defensively as well. If we had a leaderboard for taking charges he would be number one. He has improved his game tremendously in the mental part of the game. The HS game will look a little slower to him with his raised IQ. He also will be looking to put an opponent in the rim this year.

Eric Woods 6’1” PG | Aldine Nimitz BSH80

Eric is primed to have a big senior campaign. He will be a fourth year letterman for the Cougars. Every year he shows us a different dynamic. Last season it was his perimeter shooting that people were questioning before the season, but he showed everyone that it wasn’t an issue. This season look for Eric to be more vocal as a leader and control the game. He is already a tough on-ball defender. He can get to the basket as well. His leadership will be key for both the team's success and his recruitment also.

Chidi Chiakwelu 6’7” PF | Fort Bend Clements BSH80

Chidi will make an instant impact for the Rangers this season. Chidi has transferred within the UIL 6A-District 20 from George Ranch to Fort Bend Clements. His defensive prowess will be huge this season as they compete for a district crown and a deep playoff run with San Antonio as the goal. His inside presence on the offensive end will help as well, and he allows you to stretch out the floor a bit with his ability to drive to the basket from short corner and the wing.

Alec Belter 6’5” CG | Clear Springs BSH80

Alec is a high IQ guard that will be big once again for the Chargers. Last season he was a big reason why they took third place in district and made it to the second round of the playoffs. Alec reads the court really well which makes him a really good decision maker, and his passing ability is second to none. He also is a big time shot maker from the perimeter, and once he gets hot good night.

Brett Norton 6’3” SG | Katy Seven Lakes BSH80

Brett is a shooter. He would display his scoring ability in spurts during his junior year. This summer he wasn’t just a streaky scorer, but an efficient scorer and not only from the perimeter. Brett ball handling has improved from last year, as well as his motor. With him being put into a lead role this summer gave him the confidence boost that he needed going into his senior campaign. He was a part of a 26 game win streak last year and will look to play a bigger role this season.

Other prospects to keep an eye out for this season who is looking to make some noise

Bryant Ajiero 6’7” F | Fort Bend Elkins BSH80

Bryant will be very impactful and is truly under the radar. Played the summer mainly just in Houston at local events. Has a good motor. He can guard the wings and stretch bigs. He can take opponents from the perimeter and has a solid interior game as well.

Isreal Akeye 6’7” PF | Fort Bend Kempner BSH80

Israel averaged 2 dunks per game last season. He has increased his vertical jumping ability and showed it off this summer at TABC and with the Houston Raptors. Israel is a good rim runner and rebounder. His timing has gotten better defensively as a shot blocker. Has picked up some JuCo looks.

Colton Collins 6’0” G | Katy Tompkins BSH80

Colton will have a huge season for the Falcons. Seen him this summer back with his high school team and he was getting to it. Attacking the rim and finishing through contact. His handle on the ball looked a lot better and he was more in control. Shooting the ball at a higher percentage from the perimeter. He showed up every game.

Bryson Holmes 6’6” W | Klein Oak BSH80

Bryson is a super athletic wing that returns off of a really good season last year with the Panthers. His play was a big reason why they made it to the regional finals last season. Coach Ervin will be putting the ball in his senior hands this year. He is a really good rebounder for his position and buys in defensively. Makes plays above the rim on both sides of the ball.

Mario Awasum 6’6” F | John Cooper BSH80

Mario is set to have a great senior season for the Dragons this season. He has that sneaky athleticism in his game that just explodes out of nowhere. He has the ability to get to the rim from the perimeter. He likes to play above the rim. He is a really good shot blocker for his position. Has a solid handle on the ball as well. He has a couple of small schools on him already.
