A Look into TAPPS Realignments for 2024-2026

TAPPS ALIGNMENT [GREATER HOUSTON]

Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools or TAPPS. It began in 1978 with only 20 participating schools, which has now grown to 230 schools and counting as more will be added in the foreseeable future. TAPPS has six (6) classifications and has released its new realignment of districts for the 2024-2026 athletic calendar.

There has been some movement within with teams moving up a classification and dropping down in classifications. Let’s take a look at the new districts that represent the Greater Houston Area within each classification. All teams will be listed alphabetically in order.

TAPPS 6A

District 4

Concordia Lutheran (Tomball)

St. John XXIII Prep (Katy)

St. Pius X (Houston)

St. Thomas Catholic (Houston)

The Village School (Houston)

No more San Antonio teams will be playing in this District, however, they will still have to play Antionian Prep to get to the state championship tournament, or at state. TAPPS 6A went from 13 teams to 19 teams participating. St. Johns XXIII Prep moves up from 5A.

TAPPS 5A

District 4

Bay Area Christian (League City)

Fort Bend Christian (Sugar Land)

Logos Prep (Sugar Land)

Lutheran South (Houston)

Second Baptist School (Houston)

The Emery/Weiner School (Houston)

District 5

Cypress Christian School (Houston)

Frassati Catholic (Spring)

Legacy Prep Christian Academy (The Woodlands)

Monsignor Kelly Catholic (Beaumont)

The Woodlands Christian Academy (The Woodlands)

We now add two districts in 5A for next season. Frassati Catholic, The Woodlands Christian Academy, and Monsignor Kelly Catholic stay in District 5. New faces to 5A are Bay Area Christian, Logos Prep, Cypress Christian, and Legacy Prep Christian Academy which were all 4A. No more Second Baptist vs The Woodlands Christian Academy to see who will be the winner of the district, I do hope they keep the rivalry games going.

TAPPS 4A

District 6

First Baptist Academy (Pasadena)

Northland Christian (Houston)

Rosehill Christian (Tomball)

St. Francis Episcopal (Houston)

St. Thomas Episcopal (Houston)

British International School of Houston (Katy)

Westbury Christian (Houston)

St. Thomas Episcopal is the only remaining school left from 4A. They get some new foes to face as they have been the kings for the past two years. British International finally gets placed in a district. The remaining five (5) schools First Baptist, Northland, Rosehill, St. Francis Episcopal, and Westbury Christian are all familiar with each other as they were all in the same 3A district.

TAPPS 3A

District 5

Lone Star High School Southeast (Giddings)

Alpha Omega Academy (Huntsville)

Covenant Christian (Conroe)

Providence Classical (Spring)

Xavier Academy (Houston)

Alpha Omega remains in 3A District 5 and adds some new faces to its district. Lone Star Southeast was in 3A also but the realignment has moved them into the Greater Houston Area district. Covenant Christian and Providence Classical both move up from 2A. Xavier Academy has been around since 2009 and as of recently only offered Golf and Tennis, however, they will be adding basketball next season and will truly be the new kids on the block.

TAPPS 2A

District 7

Allen Academy (Bryan)

Calvary Baptist School (Conroe)

Faith West Academy (Katy)

Houston Adventist Academy (Cypress)

St. Joseph Catholic (Bryan)

District 8

Brazosport Christian (Lake Jackson)

Chiquapin School (Highlands)

Legacy Christian Academy (Beaumont)

O’Connell (Galveston)

The Briarwood School (Houston)

Luthern High North (Houston)

The last couple of years it has only been one 2A district. Next season there will be two districts. District 7 features Allen Academy and St. Joseph Catholic who were both 2A last season. Faith West moves down from 3A. Both Calvary Baptist and Houston Adventist moved up from 1A. In District 8 Chiquapin, Legacy Christian, and O’Connell were in the same district last season as 2A schools. They added two 1A schools that moved up in Brazosport Christian and The Briarwood School. Luthern High North drops down from 3A to 2A.

TAPPS 1A

District 7

Covenant Academy (Cypress)

Covenant Prep (Kingwood)

Faith Academy (Bellville)

Founders Christian (Spring)

Lifestyle Christian (Conroe)

Memorial Lutheran (Houston)

Second Baptist University Model - Houston (Houston)

Second Baptist University Model - Cypress (Cypress)

District 8

Angleton Christian (Angleton)

Baytown Christian (Baytown)

Family Christian Academy (Houston)

Divine Savior Academy (Missouri City)

Grace Christian Academy (Houston)

Living Stones Christian (Alvin)

Robert M Beren Academy (Houston)

TAPPS 1A always has had the most teams for the Greater Houston Area when it comes to private schools. Tapps had a lot more upward movement, which in turn, made Tapps 1A cut its districts from 9 to 8. Let us look at District 7 first. Still 1A, just a new district are Covenant Academy, Covenant Prep, Founders Christian, and Lifestyle Christian all come from previous District 9. Memorial Lutheran and Second Baptist University Model Houston are coming from District 8. They added two new schools in Faith Academy which was a part of the Texas Association of Independent Athletic Organization (TAIAO) and Second Baptist University Model Cypress which is off of 99 & 290 by the outlet mall will have its first Varsity season this year as they previously only offered track and field and tennis.  District 8 loses two and adds two new schools Grace Christian who comes down from 2A and Angleton Christian who is coming over from the Texas Christian Athletic League (TCAL).
