Reviews with Rob | Aldine Davis vs Nimitz

It was the first day back after a long break, and you could tell in the play. Aldine Davis 10-8 (1-0) took on the Aldine Nimitz Cougars 13-8 (1-0). From the tip, the style of play dictated that it would be a grind it out type of game. Davis looked to go down low to ℅ 2024 P Deadric Fikes; he was everywhere scoring on all levels. Nimitz just didn't look like they had an answer for him. After he cooled off, unsigned senior G Teata Bradley and ℅ 2024 G Lawrence Wilkerson took on the scoring and ball handling load. Bradley made multiple trips inside the lane resulting in a variety of acrobatic finishes at the rim. Even after all of that, Nimitz would go into the half up 24-20.

In the second half, ℅ 2024 G Javarious Thompson looked to put the Cougars on his back. He got into the paint at will and finished multiple tough layups. ℅ 2025 W Eliyahs Hood also loosened the defense up with his timely three point shooting. Going into the fourth quarter, Nimitz looked to be in control of the game. ℅ 2024 G Eric Woods hit a timely three point basket that would put the Cougars up. Davis didn’t get discouraged and came back to their star, Fikes, who would make two big free throws and send the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Davis would ride the hot hands of Fikes and Bradley and get some heady turnovers that would end up sealing the game. Aldine Davis would win 57-53 and take their district record to 2-0.
